STREAM: Four Tet Worldwide Mix // Jan 1999

Four-Tet posted this on his FB page today. Apparently Gilles Peterson just found this mix he did way back in 1999. Needless to say it's off the meter.

GIG REVIEW: Gilles Peterson & Rob Fonseca; Havana Cultura New Cuba Sound July 6 @ Barbican, London

Treated to free rum cocktails and a hot taste of some of Cuba’s finest musical talents all thanks to Havana Cultura presented by Gilles Peterson at the incredible Barbican building, London. After your gracious writer spent three days on a techno stomp out in the wilderness of Lancashire (see Beatherder review for all the gory details), this was just the ticket on the train to the end of the perfect weekend. Mr Peterson and his crew offered a sumptuous mix of Cuban Hip hop, soul, jazz and pumped up house beats to the delight of the crowd who they had bopping in the aisles by the end of the evening. I have to give a special shout out also to one Mr Roberto Fonseca who is for me one of the most talented piano players that I've ever bore witness too. Managing to seamlessly fleet between musical genres and pounding those keys with an organic ease that was as natural as drawing breath. Top quality evening with top quality music in a top quality venue.

ALBUM REVIEW: V/A 'Gilles Peterson presents Havana Cultura Remixed Released' out now on Brownswood

Well what is there left to say about Giles Peterson? The man is a legend with a back catalogue of compilation albums stretching way back over yonder years showcasing an eclectic collection of music from all corners of the globe - watch out for the Siberian Jazz Pysch Trance out next year!

Joking aside what is in store for the avid fan in the follow up to the revered Gilles Peterson presents Havana Cultura: New Cuba Sound', album. Seeing as this was two years in the making they have to have a serious array of artists on board to pay homage to what was achieved previously. With a remix roster including Louie Vega, Carl Cox, MJ Cole, 4Hero and Rainer Trueby amongst others on paper they have the talent and boy oh boy does the talent deliver big time.

The three remixes of 'Arroz Con Pollo' by Carl Cox, MJ Cole and Gotan Project's Philippe Cohen Solal, highlight just what has been achieved here with Cox banging out some typical banging beats, MJ Cole taking a more jazzy funky route in keeping with the original version and Solal taking a way down tempo afro beat route. This is typical of the albums variation with house, hip hop, Jazz, Afro Beat and many more genres represented Mr. Peterson has well and truly hit the proverbial nail well and truly on it’s noggin’ a must buy for all.

The Gilles Peterson Presents Havana Cultura Remixed launch party is being held at East Village in Shoreditch, London on Friday 11th June.
